YouTube relaunched the Premium Lite subscription almost one year ago, in March of 2025, and now it’s announced some exciting new features for this plan.
While so far YouTube Premium Lite gave you “most videos” ad-free and nothing more, starting now there’s also support for background play and downloads for “most videos”.
This is rolling out “in the coming weeks” everywhere YouTube Premium Lite is available. Regarding ads, the company still only promises you’ll see “most videos” ad-free, not all of them like with the full subscription.
Still, Premium Lite is cheaper than Premium, and it now gains two features that make it a much more compelling offering. Do keep in mind the small print, though, which says Premium Lite benefits are available “on most non-music content, excluding Shorts” and that “ads may appear when you search or browse”.
