JSW Motors is set to make its independent entry into the Indian market by the 2026 Diwali festive season. The carmaker plans to introduce new-energy vehicles (NEVs) under a partnership with Chery Automobile, which will provide the product base and technology to JSW. The brand’s first passenger vehicle in India will be the JSW-badged Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid SUV. It will be locally assembled at the company’s new manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.

Plug-in Hybrid SUV For India

The upcoming Jetour T2 i-DM PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) will feature a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 26.7kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a combined power of 381bhp and 610Nm of torque. The SUV gets a 3-speed 3DHT gearbox. The plug-in hybrid SUV offers an electric range of 139km NEDC, and can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 7.5 seconds.

125kmpl Mileage?

The biggest highlight of the Jetour T2 PHEV is its fuel efficiency. The global-spec model has a claimed NEDC combined fuel consumption of 0.8-litre/100km, which is equivalent to 125kmpl. However, this doesn’t mean that the SUV can travel 125km on one litre of fuel under normal driving conditions. With the battery depleted, the T2 i-DM consumes 5.4-litre of fuel per 100 kilometre, which is around 18.5kmpl.

JSW Motors will also bring in strong hybrid vehicles, range-extender electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles, with prices expected to range between Rs 10 lakh – Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). The range is likely to include the iCAUR V23 EV, which will target the affordable lifestyle electric SUVs, and the Jaecoo J5 electric SUV, which will compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti eVitara, Toyota eBella, MG ZS EV and Tata Curvv EV.

Network Planning

Ahead of commencing its independent operations, JSW Motors has setup nearly 70 dealerships across 51 cities, with approximately 89 touchpoints. The company aims to further expand its network to 120 outlets and 150 touchpoints by April, 2027.
