2 New Maruti Family MPVs Arriving By 2027 – Petrol & Electric

With its Vision 3.0 long-term future plan, Maruti Suzuki aims to regain a 50% share of the Indian passenger vehicle market. The strategy includes expanding product portfolio, strengthening exports, adopting multi-powertrain strategy, increasing production capacity, achieving carbon neutrality and enhancing customer experience. The company’s future lineup will have a mix of entry-level and premium SUVs along with family-oriented people movers.

As part of this strategy, Maruti Suzuki is reported to introduce two new MPVs, codenamed YMC and YDB, by 2027. Both models will cater to different sets of buyers. Here’s everything we know so far about these upcoming Maruti MPVs.

Maruti YMC

The new Maruti YMC will be an electric MPV, and is expected to share platform and powertrain with the eVitara. The EV SUV comes with the 49kWh and 61.1kWh battery pack options, delivering a range of up to 543km per charge.

The YMC is expected to measure around 4.5 metres in length, and offer features such as a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, a digital driver’s display, powered and ventilated seats, Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, connected car tech and more.

The Maruti YDB is likely to be based on the Suzuki Spacia, which is currently sold in the Japanese market. The India-bound version will feature a different design language, while retaining the tallboy stance and boxy silhouette of the donor model. Similar to the Spacia, it’s expected to measure 3,395mm in length.

The new Maruti MPV might also miss out on some premium features offered in its Japanese counterpart such as sliding doors and the rear seats with ottoman-like extensions.

Under the hood, the new YDB MPV is likely to feature a 1.2L, three-cylinder Z Series petrol engine, pushing out power worth 82bhp and 108Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are expected to be on offer. The new Maruti subcompact MPV could be retailed through the company’s premium Nexa dealership network.
