3 New Affordable Maruti, Hyundai & Kia Electric SUVs by 2027


The Indian electric vehicle (EV) market has evolved significantly from its early days, when most offerings in the segment were considerably costlier than their ICE models. However, rising market demand, increasing localization, advanced battery technology and improved economies of scale are gradually bringing down the cost of electric vehicles. The introduction of ownership schemes such as Battery-as-a-Services has further reduced the upfront cost of the EVs.

As competition in the segment intensifies, the electric SUV market is set to witness the launch of several affordable options from OEMs such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Kia. Maruti Suzuki. Here’re the key details we know so far about the upcoming most affordable Maruti, Hyundai and Kia EVs.

Maruti e-Sky-based EV

Maruti Suzuki is working on an electric hatchback, which is expected to make global debut in the financial year 2026-27. The latest spy images of the Vision e-Sky give a fair idea about the upcoming Maruti small EV making its way to India. The production-ready version of the Vision e-Sky will be based on Maruti Suzuki’s new K-EV platform and measure nearly 3.39 metres in length. It’s likely to feature a 29kWh battery and deliver a range of around 270km per change.

Hyundai Compact EV

Hyundai Motor India has confirmed plans to launch a compact electric SUV by March 2027. It’s expected to be based on the global-spec Hyundai Inster EV, and could be offered with 42kWh and 49kWh battery pack options. The EV is likely to offer a range over 350km on a single charge. Expected features could include OTA updates, a touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, in-car connectivity tech, multiple airbags and more.

Kia Compact EV

Kia has announced four new electrified models for the Indian market including three hybrids and a compact EV. The upcoming Kia electric SUV will be developed locally and measure around 4.2 metres in length.
