Hyundai Motor India has planned several new models including three new SUVs, set to arrive by March 2027. The upcoming lineup includes the Bayon-based midsize SUV (codenamed Bc4i), a new subcompact electric SUV (codenamed HE1i) and the next-generation Creta. As part of its new product strategy, similar to that of Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai will introduce its second offering in the midsize SUV segment, which is widely expected to be based on the Bayon compact crossover.
The Hyundai HE1i will be the brand’s first mass-market electric offering, while the all-new Creta will make Hyundai’s entry into the strong hybrid segment. Here’re the key details of these upcoming Hyundai SUVs.
Hyundai Bayon
Based on the Bayon, the upcoming Hyundai SUV is reported to be offered with the naturally aspirated petrol engine and CNG powertrain options. Hyundai is likely to use the Creta’s proven 1.5-litre petrol engine, paired with manual and CVT gearbox options. It could be Hyundai’s first CNG model in India to measure over 4 metre in length. The CNG version is expected to feature an underbody-mounted tank, while retaining a spare wheel.
Hyundai Compact Electric SUV
The upcoming Hyundai compact electric SUV will be built on the brand’s E-GMP (K) platform and is likely to share powertrain with the global-spec Hyundai Inster EV. The latter is available with the 42kWh and 49kWh versions, delivering a WLTP-claimed range of 300km and 355km, respectively. For the new compact EV SUV, Hyundai is likely to use locally soured battery packs from Exide.
Spy images suggest that the new Hyundai compact electric SUV will feature a boxy and upright stance. It could be the first Hyundai in India to feature the brand’s Pleos Connect system along with a Level 2 ADAS suite.
Next-Gen Hyundai Creta
The third-generation Hyundai Creta will switch to the newer and safer K3 platform, and receive comprehensive design changes. It’s also expected to get Hyundai’s new Pleos Connect infotainment system and several other feature enhancements.
Under the hood, the existing 115bh, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 160bhp, 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo petrol and 116bhp, 1.5-litre diesel will be retained. However, the biggest upgrade will be the introduction of a new strong hybrid powertrain, which is expected to be based on the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
