In recent years, the Indian car market has shifted toward SUVs and compact crossovers, adversely impacting sales of sedans and small cars. Earlier, sedans were more affordable than SUVs, but now their prices overlap, leading buyers to prefer compact SUVs for their practicality, modern styling and performance.
Currently, the midsize sedan segment has four major offerings in the midsize sedan segment – the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus. While the Hyundai Verna received a midlife update in March 2026, the other three sedans are now gearing up for significant updates. Here’s everything we know so far about these upcoming models.
New Honda City Facelift

The new Honda City facelift is currently in testing phase, and was recently spotted in heavily camouflaged form in Brazil. Most of its design elements are expected to be inspired by the new Civic. While details remain limited at this moment, the facelifted version is likely to come with an updated infotainment system along with new upholstery and interior trims.
The India-spec version is expected to continue with the existing 1.5L iVTEC naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L Atkinson cycle hybrid powertrain options. Transmission choices will also remain unchanged including a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed CVT and an eCVT (exclusive to the hybrid variant).
New Skoda Slavia/ VW Virtus Facelifts

Following the updates to the Kushaq and Taigun, Skoda Auto Volkswagen Group will introduce the Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Vitrus facelifts in the coming months. Both models are expected to receive subtle cosmetic updates and feature enhancements, possibly in line with their midsize SUV siblings.
While specific details are yet to be revealed, the 2026 Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus are likely to retain the existing 1.0L, 3-cylinder engine producing 115bhp with 175Nm, and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder TSI petrol engine delivering power worth 150bhp with 250Nm of torque.
