The Mahindra XUV 7XO is one of the top-selling SUVs in its segment, favoured for its modern styling, commanding road presence, segment-first features and value proposition. Aiming to challenge its territory and tap into the D1 SUV segment, carmakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Kia are planning to launch new models by 2027.

New Maruti 7-Seater SUV

Maruti Suzuki is working on a new three-row premium SUV, which is likely to be based on the Grand Vitara. The model is likely to share its platform and powertrains with its 5-seater sibling. This means, it will come with a 1.5L TNGA Atkinson Cycle strong hybrid and 1.5L K15C petrol engine options. Compared to the Grand Vitara, the new Maruti 7-seater SUV is expected to offer a more spacious cabin with an additional row of seats. It’s expected to hit roads by the end of 2026.

Hyundai 7-Seater SUV (Ni1i)

Hyundai Motor India will introduce a new premium 7-seater SUV (codenamed Ni1i) to challenge the Mahindra XUV 7XO in 2027. If reports are to be believed, the Hyundai Ni1i could be based on the Tucson LWB, which is already on sale in the Chinese market. Dimensionally, it’s expected to be identical to the Tucson LWB, measuring 4,603mm in length, 1,865mm in width and 1,665mm in height.

Following the new Hyundai Creta, the Ni1i 7-seater SUV could become the brand’s second hybrid offering in India. Hyundai is reported to electrify its 1.5L petrol engine for its future hybrid models in the country.

Kia Sorento Hybrid SUV

Frequent sightings of the Kia Sorento suggest that the SUV is undergoing extensive testing ahead of its launch in 2027. The India-bound model is likely to use a 1.5L petrol hybrid powertrain, which will debut on the next-generation Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos next year. In global markets, the Sorento is available with multiple powertrain options including a 238bhp, 1.6L turbo petrol hybrid, a 288bhp, 2.2L diesel hybrid and a 1.6L turbo petrol plug-in hybrid.
