Affordable Volkswagen Tayron Variant Launching Tomorrow – What to Expect?

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, the brand’s flagship SUV in India, was introduced earlier this year at an introductory price of Rs 46.99 lakh. The German automaker is now gearing up to expand the Taryon SUV lineup with a new lower-spec, non-R-Line variant, which is slated to launch tomorrow (July 10, 2026). Ahead of its market arrival, Volkswagen India has released a teaser, giving us a glimpse of its design and interior highlights.

Design Details

The teaser shows the SUV’s front fascia, featuring a grille, projector LED headlamps with a connected light bar and an illuminated Volkswagen logo in the centre and bumper similar to its sportier counterpart. The side profile looks largely similar to the R-Line version, except for the newly-designed alloy wheels.

New-Volkswagen-Tayron-Variant

Other design highlights include gloss-black roof rails, wheel arches, and connected LED taillamps with an illuminated Volkswagen logo. Dimensionally, the new Tayron will be similar to its R-Line version, measuring 4,792mm in length, 1,866mm in width and 1,665mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,789mm. It will offer a boot space of 345-litres.

Miss Out On Some Features

Unlike the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line which offers a sporty all-black interior, the new lower variant (non-R-Line) features a dual-tone cabin theme. However, the 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, and a three-spoke steering wheel appear similar the Tarron R-Line. Being a lower-spec variant, the 2026 Volkswagen Tayron is expected to miss out some advanced features.

Same Turbo Engine

Under the hood, the Volkswagen Tayron will continue to feature the same 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine that powers the R-Line version. This engine, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and AWD (all-wheel drive) system, delivers a claimed power of 204bhp and 320Nm of torque. The Tayron R-Line accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 7.3 seconds and offers a top speed of 224kmph. These performance figures could remain unchanged or vary slightly for the new non-R-Line variant.

Prices & Competition

Considering the subtle design changes and feature deletions, the 2026 Volkswagen Tayron is expected to be priced slightly lower than the Tayron R-Line. It will continue to take on the MG Majestor, Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq.
