The Tata Nexon, one of the top-selling SUVs in India, has long been admired for its 5-star safety, multiple engine options, feature-packed interior and strong value-for-money proposition. The subcompact SUV achieved the 2 lakh annual sales for the first time in calendar year 2025. Since its launch in 2017, the Nexon has received two major facelifts, and is now moving closer to a full generational upgrade, expected in 2027.
New Tata Nexon 2027 – What We Know So Far
Modified Platform
According to reports, the new Tata Nexon will receive significant structural and design updates and will be based on a heavily modified version of the current X1 architecture. For people not in the know, Tata’s X1 platform was designed to support multiple body styles including hatchbacks, sedans and compact SUVs.
This architecture previously served as a base for the Tata Bolt and Zest, launched in 2014. Over the years, the X1 architecture has been updated to support modern features such as an electronic power assisted steering, speed sensitive power steering and more.

More Features & Tech
Internally codenamed ‘Garud’, the new Tata Nexon 2027 might draw design elements from the brand’s new-age models. To further enhance its value proposition, the carmaker might equip the SUV with an ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite.
Petrol & CNG Will Stay, Diesel Future Uncertain
Details of the 2027 Tata Nexon are scanty at the moment. However, the subcompact SUV lineup is likely to retain the existing 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine, producing power worth 120bhp and 170Nm of torque.
The CNG powertrain option will also continue to be on offer. However, the diesel engine could be discontinued due to the upcoming BS7 emission norms that will come into effect from July 1, 2027. While the Nexon’s 1.5L diesel engine complies with BS6 emission standards, upgrading it to meet the upcoming BS7 emission norms could prove costly. The new Nexon is also expected to retain the existing transmission options, including a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT and a 7-speed DCT automatic.
