Apple releases iOS 26.5.1 and macOS 26.5.1

Today, Apple released a new iOS update, dubbed 26.5.1. As the small incrementation implies, this is anything but a big one. In fact, its sole purpose is to fix one specific bug. That said, if you have encountered this bug, it sounds like it could be pretty nasty – it can basically prevent wired charging on the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models when the battery is nearly drained, according to the official changelog.

Needless to say, when the battery is nearly drained is exactly when you most want charging to work, so it’s good to see this issue fixed. Apple says only a very small number of users were affected.

Speaking of niche bugs, macOS 26.5.1 is also here to fix an issue for enterprise users where Macs with an M5 chip could unexpectedly shut down when using “certain content filtering network extensions”.

Next week, on June 8, Apple will unveil iOS 27 and macOS 27, which are then expected to be released in the fall, most likely in September.
