The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is now on sale in India at an introductory price of Rs 46.99 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, it competes with the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and the upcoming MG Majestor. It’s the brand’s new flagship offering, based on the Tiguan, and replaces the now-discontinued Tiguan AllSpace.

Under the hood, the Tayron R-Line features a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine, producing power worth 204bhp and 320Nm of torque. Transmission duties are carried out by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The SUV comes with an AWD (all-wheel drive) system as standard. It accelerates 0 to 100kmph in 7.3 seconds, and attains a top speed of 224kmph.

Measuring 4,792 mm in length, 1,866 mm in width and 1,665 mm in height, Volkswagen’s new 7-seater SUV offers a commanding road presence. It offers 345-litres of boot space, which is expandable up to 1,950-litres. Based on the MQB EVO platform, the Tayron R-Line features the familiar Matrix LED headlamps, gloss-black cladding on the wheel arches, 19-inch alloy wheels, new LED taillamp elements and ‘R-Line’ badges.

The interior layout closely resembles that of the VW Tiguan R-Line. However, the dashboard looks slightly revised, featuring a silver strip running across its length. The SUV comes with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a massive 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a three-spoke steering wheel, adjustable headrests and leatherette wrapped seat upholstery.
