Alternative fuels, including CNG, electric and hybrid, are gaining popularity in the Indian market. Following petrol, the CNG vehicles have emerged as the most preferred choice among buyers, registering significant 10.14 lakh units sales in FY2026. This segment recorded a 21.7% YoY growth against 19.6% in FY2025.

Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the segment with total sales of 7,08,096 units, capturing a 70% market share. Tata Motors secured the second position with 1,72,089 units and a 16.96% share, followed by Hyundai Motor India with 95,023 units (9.36%). Toyota Kirloskar Motor stood fourth with 39,501 units, accounting for a 3.89% market share.

The Maruti Ertiga was the best-selling CNG car with total sales of 1,45,480 units, followed by the Dzire and WagonR, registering total sales of 1,35,330 units and 96,381 units, respectively. A total of 71,329 units of the Maruti Brezza CNG sold in FY2026. The Maruti Eeco, Fronx and Victoris also have major contribution and posted sales of 66,675 units, 54,805 units and 35,677 units, respectively.
Tata Motors’ Nexon was the fifth top-selling CNG model with sales of 69,168 units, while the Punch secured sixth position with 67,468 units. The Hyundai Aura was the brand’s best-selling CNG model, posting total sales of 62,612 units during the fiscal year.
