Gemini in Chrome reaches an important new market

Google expanded the availability of Gemini inside the Chrome browser to multiple countries back in June, and today it’s finally made it to one of the biggest markets that it was missing from: the UK.

The rollout is starting with Chrome on desktop, and Gemini will become available in Chrome on iOS in the UK next month.

Gemini in Chrome can chat with you, summarize open tabs, compare information across multiple tabs, remember context from past conversations, generate and edit images with Nano Banana 2, and much more, all without you having to leave the page you’re on.

It’s also deeply integrated with Google apps like Calendar, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, and so on. This makes it easy to ask it questions about a YouTube video you’re watching or a location in Maps. You can also schedule meetings and draft emails, of course.

Google says Gemini models are “trained to recognize known threats” including prompt injection, and Gemini has safeguards to ask for confirmation before completing “sensitive actions”.
