Honor launched the Robot Phone in China in August, and today it’s reached Zack from the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel. Unsurprisingly, he’s subjected it to his usual battery of “durability tests”, and then disassembled it – all in the video below, so grab some popcorn and enjoy the ride.

The Honor Robot Phone’s gimbal camera is definitely very cool as a concept, but it turns out it’s actually quite hot to the touch. The glass on the front of the phone scratches at level 6 on the Mohs scale, and there are deeper grooves appearing at level 7, just as with every other display glass out there.

The device’s frame is made from aluminum, and when subjected to a ton of dust and sand, the gimbal can’t come out of its enclosure anymore, perhaps unsurprisingly. So the “robot” arm is not truly dust-proof. The Robot Phone does however survive the bend test with flying colors.

Interestingly, the vapor chamber is glued to the back of the screen, so basically Honor is using the screen to dissipate heat. The 200MP periscope telephoto camera has OIS, and the “robot” arm is definitely not easy to remove from the device’s body. Even so, it is an impressive feat of engineering.
