Hyundai Motor India has confirmed the launch of a new midsize SUV during this year’s festive season. While the official name and details of the product are yet to be revealed, it’s widely speculated to be based on the Hyundai Bayon sold in global markets. Following the launch of this new midsize SUV, the South Korean automaker will introduce a new compact electric SUV (codenamed HE1i) by March 2027.

Hyundai Bayon Midsize SUV – What To Expect?

The new Hyundai midsize SUV (codenamed Bc4i) will be positioned between the Venue and Creta in the company’s product lineup, and will be sold alongside the Creta. A similar dual-product strategy have already been adopted by Maruti Suzuki with the Victoris and Grand Vitara, where both SUVs cater the same segment with slightly different positioning.

Official details of the upcoming midsize SUV are still under wraps, it’s expected to be based on the Europe-spec Hyundai Bayon compact crossover. It’s likely to measure around 4.18 metres in length, share its platform, components and several features with the Bayon.

NA Petrol & CNG Powertrain Options

If reports are to be believed, the new Hyundai midsize SUV could be available with two engine options – a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a CNG. The petrol version might be offered with both manual and CVT automatic gearbox options. The CNG tank is likely to feature an underbody-mounted tank, similar to the setup seen in the Maruti Victoris.

The Hyundai Bayon will become the brand’s first model measuring over 4 metres in length to offer a CNG powertrain option. Interestingly, the carmaker will offer the diesel and strong hybrid powertrains exclusively for the next-generation Creta to maintain its premium positioning. The all-new Creta is set to debut in early 2027 with comprehensive design changes, feature and tech upgrades and a new strong hybrid powertrain.

The new Hyundai midsize SUV (Hyundai Bayon) is expected to offer features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, Hyundai BlueLink connected car tech, wireless smartphone charging, rear paring camera, front and rear parking sensors, leatherette upholstery, multiple airbags, TPMS and more.
