Kia India is gearing up for two major launches, the Syros EV and the Sorento premium three-row SUV. Unofficial bookings for both models are already underway at select Kia dealerships. While the Kia Syros EV is set to go on sale on July 23, the Kia Sorento is expected to arrive around this year’s Diwali season.
Hybrid & Diesel Powertrain Options
According to a leaked scan, the Kia Sorento SUV will be offered with two powertrain options – diesel and hybrid. While the document doesn’t reveal detailed specifications, reports suggest that Kia is likely to use a hybridized version of its proven 1.5L petrol engine for the 7-seater SUV.

Globally, the Sorento is offered with a 1.6L turbocharged GDi petrol hybrid and a 2.2L CRDi turbo diesel engine options, delivering power worth 227bhp and 202bhp, respectively. Transmission choices include a 6-speed automatic and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic. Both powertains are offered with FWD (front-wheel drive) and AWD (all-wheel drive) systems in international markets.
Seating Capacity & Highlights
Similar to the global-spec version, the India-bound Kia Sorento will be available in both 6 and 7-seats configurations, as revealed by the leaked document. The 6-seater version will feature captain chairs in the second row, while the 7-seater model will come with a bench-type seat. The leaked marketing pamphlet also claims that the SUV will deliver “powerful hybrid performance” and “excellent fuel efficiency”.
Dimensions & Features
Dimensionally, the new Kia hybrid SUV will measure 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,700mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,815mm. The cabin layout and feature list of the India-bound Kia Sorento are expected to identical to the global version. Expected features include a panoramic sunroof, dual 12.3-inch displays, powered driver seats, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS suite and more.
Expected Price & Competition
While official pricing will be announced in the coming months, the Kia Sorento 7-seater hybrid SUV is expected to be priced between of Rs 40 lakh – Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, it will take on the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, Toyota Fortuner and MG Majestor.
