Kia Sorento Hybrid SUV Launch Nears; Dealers Start Accepting Bookings

Following its multi-powertrain strategy, Kia India has confirmed the launch of two new models – Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). While the carmaker hasn’t yet revealed the names or details of these models, they are expected to be the Kia Syros EV and the Kia Sorento three-row SUV. The Syros EV is set to be debut in the last week of July, followed by its market launch in August.

Booking Amount

The Kia Sorento, which will be the brand’s first strong hybrid model in India, is likely to hit roads around the 2026 Diwali season. While its official launch is still a few months away, select Kia dealers have started accepting unofficial bookings for the SUV with token sum ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000.

Expected Price & Competition

Within Kia India’s portfolio, the Sorento will sit above the Seltos, and will compete against the monocoque SUV such as Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, while also taking on body-on-frame SUVs including the MG Majestor and Toyota Forturner. Its prices are expected fall in the range of Rs 30 lakh – Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom).

1.5L Petrol Hybrid Powertrain

Official powertrain specifications of the India-spec Sorento are yet to be announced. However, reports suggest Kia might use a hybridized version of the 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine that currently offered with the Seltos midsize SUV. The same hybrid powertrain could also be introduced in the Kia Seltos lineup in 2027.

Global-Spec Details

In European markets, the Kia Sorento is available with a 1.6L, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol hybrid powertrain and a 6-speed automatic transmission. An AWD (all-wheel drive) system comes as standard across the lineup. Depending on the market, the SUV is available in 5, 6 and 7 seat configurations. The 6-seater version offers captain’s chairs for the second-row occupants.

Premium Features

Similar to the global-spec version, the India-bound Kia Sorento is expected to offer premium features such as a dual display setup, a Bose sound system, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, multi-zone climate control, Level 2 ADAS, an electronic parking brake and more.
