MediaTek’s Apple-inspired Dimensity 9600 variants revealed

MediaTek is expected to launch the Dimensity 9600 SoC this year, and a new rumor from China now claims there will actually be three versions. The Dimensity 9600s is said to be basically a Dimensity 9500+, a slightly improved version of the Dimensity 9500 that was launched last year. Thus, it will still be made on a 3nm process.

The ‘proper’ Dimensity 9600 will be offered in two variants, emulating what has been rumored that Qualcomm will do with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. In MediaTek’s case, we’re allegedly not getting a vanilla SoC and a Pro one, but a Pro and a Pro Max.

The Dimensity 9600 Pro and Pro Max will both be made on TSMC’s 2nm process. These two are said to differ in their exact CPU configurations. Unsurprisingly, the source of this rumor claims that the Dimensity 9600s won’t rise to the same level as Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.

That makes perfect sense since we’re comparing a 3nm chip with a 2nm chip. The Dimensity 9600 Pro will probably be MediaTek’s answer to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the Dimensity 9600 Pro Max will be the one to compare to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.

The new Dimensity 9600 lineup is expected to make its debut in devices launching this September, specifically the vivo X500 series and the Oppo Find X10 family.
