Naveen questions state govt role in evacuating Odias from West Asia; BJP hits back
Leader of opposition and BJD president Naveen Patnaik

Bhubaneswar: Leader of opposition and BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday alleged that the state govt’s lack of urgency in evacuating migrant workers stranded in West Asia has worsened their plight, draweing flak from BJP.Taking to X, the former chief minister said several Odias are currently trapped in the conflict zone with air routes closed, flights cancelled and borders shut. “From labourers to students, professionals, tourists and travellers, they are all extremely terrified. Even their families and loved ones back in Odisha are sitting there, anxiously awaiting their return,” he wrote.Responding to the criticism, BJP spokesperson Manoj Kumar Mohapatra said, “It is a fact that during crises such as Covid, Ukraine-Russia war and the Gulf conflict, PM Narendra Modi facilitated the safe evacuation of Indians stranded abroad. Even Naveen Patnaik had earlier praised him for these efforts. But the statements made by Naveen today appear to be an attempt to cover up the reality that his own party is no longer in his control.
