With a strong focus on SUV segment, Hyundai Motor India has confirmed two new models for the current financial year, including a midsize SUV and a compact electric vehicle (EV). While the carmaker has remained tight lipped about these upcoming products, the new Hyundai midsize SUV is expected to be based on the globally sold Hyundai Bayon, while the EV will be a heavily localized model developed specifically for the Indian market.
For reference, Maruti Suzuki currently offers two midsize SUVs through its dealership networks – the Nexa-exclusive Grand Vitara and the Arena-specific Victoris. These models are generation volumes for the Indo-Japanese automaker and strengthening its presence in the segment.

Hyundai seems to be adopting a similar product strategy by introducing two SUVs in the midsize segment with different positioning. The new Hyundai midsize SUV is expected to sit between the Venue and Creta in the company’s product lineup.
Codenamed Bc4i, the new Hyundai Bayon-based SUV is expected to be offered with a naturally aspirated petrol engine and CNG fuel option. The CNG version could feature a dual-cylinder technology. Earlier reports suggested that hat the Bayon could debut with Hyundai’s all-new 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine, which will also be hybrid ready. The carmaker might also use the 1.0L turbo petrol engine for this new midsize SUV.
The cabin layout and features of the new Hyundai midsize SUV could be largely similar to the Creta. It’s expected to be packed with several advanced comfort and driver assistance features. It’s design and styling could be inspired by the Bayon and Creta.
