New Hyundai Sub-4m SUV Coming in 2026

Hyundai Motor India has planned multiple new products and facelifts for this year, including a sub-4 compact crossover that will challenging the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. While the carmaker remains tight-lipped about the upcoming micro-SUV – codenamed Bc4i, reports suggest it will be based on the Hyundai Bayon sold in select global markets.

Expected Launch & Prices

Interestingly, the global-spec Bayon measures over 4,810mm in length; however, the India-bound model will be trimmed down to fall under 4-meter category for avail tax benefits. The Hyundai Bayon-based compact crossover is likely to arrive in the third quarter of 2026. After the Exter, it will become the second most affordable Hyundai SUV in India. Prices are expected to start around Rs 7 lakh for the base variant and go up nearly Rs 15 lakh for the fully-loaded top variant.

Hybrid-Ready Engine

One of the major highlights of the upcoming compact crossover will be the all-new 1.2L turbocharged direct injection petrol engine, which will also be hybrid-ready and used in Hyundai’s future hybrid vehicles. This four-cylinder motor could be paired with either a dual-clutch automatic or an e-CVT transmission. Reports suggest that Hyundai’s new 1.2L TGDi petrol engine will deliver better torque than the Venue’s 1.0L petrol engine, while offering better fuel efficiency than Creta’s 1.5L turbo petrol motor.

Hyundai might also use this new powertrain in the new-generation Creta (which is due for launch in 2027) along with the Venue and other future models. The compact crossover lineup could additionally be offered with the familiar 1.0L turbo petrol engine, borrowed from the i20 N Line and Venue.

Market-Specific Changes

As the length of the Bayon-based compact SUV will be reduced for the Indian market, several market-specific changes are expected. While the India-bound model is likely to retain the signature upright stance, it might feature newly-designed alloy wheels, massive body cladding and differently designed LED taillamp clusters.

The official feature list of the India-bound Hyundai Bayon will be revealed closer to its launch. However, the global-spec version comes packed with several advanced goodies including

  • 10.25-inch infotainment
