Kia India is on a roll. The South Korean automaker recently introduced Kia Sorento three-row premium SUV with diesel and strong hybrid powertrain options. In a further development, Kia has announced the CNG specifications of the Carens and Carens Clavis CNG along with the launch and powertrain details of the Kia Carnival Hybrid.

The Kia Carnival hybrid will become the brand’s second strong hybrid in the Indian market. The carmaker has confirmed that the MPV will share its powertrain with the Sorento, which features a 1.6-litre GDi turbo-petrol hybrid setup.
The 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine produces a maximum power of 180bhp and 265Nm of torque, while the electric motor generates 65bhp and 264Nm of torque. However, in the Carnival, the electric motor will produce 73.4bh and 304Nm of torque. Similar to the Kia Sorento, the upcoming Carnival hybrid is expected to feature a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission and an AWD (all-wheel drive) system.
Existing Diesel Engine
The Kia Carnival is currently available with a 2.2-litre diesel engine, paired with an 8-speed torque convertor automatic transmission and a FWD (front-wheel drive) system. The oil-burner delivers a claimed power of 190bhp and 441Nm of torque.
Design & Features
The overall design and styling of the Kia Carnival hybrid are likely to remain unchanged, expect for the addition of ‘Hybrid’ badging. Similar to the standard diesel version, the strong hybrid model will be packed with several advanced features such as dual 12.3-inch curved displays, a 11-inch HUD, dual electric sunroofs, a 12-seapker Bose sound system, a 12-way powered driver’s seat, four-spoke steering wheel, three-zone climate control, hill assist control, Level 2 ADAS and more.
The addition of the strong hybrid powertrain will make the Carniva hybrid more fuel efficient and technologically advanced alternative to its existing diesel version.
