The second-generation Mahindra Thar is set to receive its first major update in India tomorrow (September 22, 2026). The facelifted version is expected to get several design changes and feature enhancements inspired by the Thar Roxx. However, the engine and gearbox options are likely to remain unchanged. With subtle changes inside and out, the new Mahindra Thar 3 door is expected to be priced a slightly premium over the current model, which is available in the price range of Rs 10.32 lakh – Rs 17.80 lakh (ex-showroom).

Design Highlights

The official teasers reveal that the 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift will feature a newly-designed front grille with a honeycomb pattern, Thar-Roxx-inspired projector LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs and a tweaked bumper. The SUV might also come with the newly-designed alloy wheels. A few design updates will also be made at the rear.

Interior & Features

The new Mahindra Thar facelift is expected to feature new trims and leatherette seat upholstery. Similar to the Thar Roxx, it could be equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster. Features such as a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera and automatic AC unit could also be part of the package.

Engine, Gearbox & Drivetrain

Under the hood, the new 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift is expected to retain the existing 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litrre diesel engine options. The 1.5-litre diesel engine delivers a maximum power of 119bhp and 300Nm of torque, while the 2.2-litre diesel engine is good enough for 152bhp and 300Nm (MT)/320Nm (AT). The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine pushes out a maximum power of 152bhp and 300Nm (MT)/320Nm (AT).

A 6-speed manual gearbox comes as standard, while the 6-speed automatic gearbox is exclusively available with the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is available with a rear-wheel drive (RWD) drivetrain system, while the 2.2-litre diesel engine comes with a 4×4 configuration. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol is available with both drivetrain systems.
