New Maruti & Hyundai EVs To Debut In 2026 – MPV & Punch EV Rival

India’s two major automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are planning to introduce all-new electric vehicles (EVs) before the end of this year. However, both carmakers are yet to make an official announcement about these products and their launch timelines.

Maruti Suzuki is currently testing an electric MPV (codenamed YMC), which is expected to debut in late 2026, followed by its launch in early 2027. Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor India is preparing to launch its first mass-market EV around 2026 Diwali season. Codenamed Hyundai HE1i , the upcoming sub-4 metre SUV will challenge the Tata Punch EV.

Here’s a quick look at the key details of these upcoming Maruti and Hyundai EVs.

Maruti Electric MPV (YMC)

The upcoming Maruti electric subcompact MPV will share its platform with the eVitara, and will also spawn a Toyota derivative at a later stage. Spy shots suggest that the EV will feature upright front and rear profiles giving it an overall boxy silhouette. Key design highlights will include eVitara-like air intakes on the front bumper, larger headlamps with drop-down element, large aero-optimized alloy wheels and vertically positioned connected taillamps.

The Maruti YMC is expected to share its electric powertrain with the eVitata, which is currently available with the 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options. The electric MPV is likely to offer a driving range of 543km on a single charge.

Hyundai Compact EV SUV (HE1i)

Hyundai has confirmed that it’s developing a new compact electric SUV designed, engineered and built for the Indian market. The EV will be based on the E-GMP (K) platform, which also underpins the Hyundai Inster EV sold in European markets. It will be manufactured at Hyundai Motor India’s Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu.

The upcoming Hyundai compact EV SUV will be available with two battery pack options – Standard Range and Long Range. The carmaker will source locally manufactured batteries from Exide. Similar to the Europe-spec Inster EV, the HE1i SUV could be offered with 42kWh and 49kWh options. In terms of features, the EV will offer a large touchscreen infotainment system supporting OTA (over-the-air) updates and a Level 2 ADAS suite.
