JSW MG Motor India aims to achieve 75% sales from new energy vehicles including electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). The carmaker has already announced the launch of a plug-in hybrid SUV in the second half of 2026, which will be followed by the new-generation Astor and ZS EV in 2027. According to Autocar, MG is planning to discontinue the existing platforms of the Astor and ZS EV and replace them with an all-new modular SIGMA (SAIC Intelligent Global Modular Architecture) platform.
SIGMA Platform Explained
Developed by SAIC Motor, the SIGMA platform supports 9 powertrain types and 18 combinations, different drivetrain systems and body styles. It has been designed with over 100 modular components with efficient packaging, ensuring a smaller mechanical footprint and a more spacious cabin.
The SIGMA architecture is compatible with advanced electronic and software including 5G connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet, CAN FD communication, Muti-domain controllers, OTA updates, connected car features and more. The MG One compact SUV is the brand’s first vehicle to underpin the SIGMA platform.
More details of the all-new MG Astor and ZS EV replacements are still under the wraps. However, we can expect an all-new design language, a premium and more feature-packed interior and multiple powertrain options.
