Xiaomi has announced the Redmi Note 17 in India. Successor to the Redmi Note 15 from last year, the new model brings a much larger battery capacity and a bigger display, but compromises in other areas to maintain price parity in the current market.

The Redmi Note 17 has a new 8000mAh battery, which is 45% bigger than the one on the Redmi Note 15. You get 45W of wired fast charging as well as 22.5W of reversed wired charging. The new phone also has a bigger (and flatter) 7.0-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection.

However, concessions have been made elsewhere on the spec sheet. The Redmi Note 17 runs on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chip, which is a bit of a downgrade from the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 found on the Redmi Note 15. There are 6GB and 8GB memory options available, but only with 128GB storage, and you’ll have to use the microSD expansion to get more storage at the cost of losing one of the two SIM slots.

The Redmi Note 17 also has a single 50MP camera at the back compared to the dual 108MP main + 8MP ultrawide on the Redmi Note 15, and loses the 4K video recording capability. The front camera has also been swapped from 20MP to 8MP. Lastly, the stereo speakers of the Redmi Note 15 have been replaced by a single speaker on the new model.

The Redmi Note 17 is priced at INR 27,999 for the 6+128GB model, and INR 30,999 for the 8+128GB model. It will be available in three colors, Dark Night, Arctic Blue, and Starlight Purple. The phone will go on sale on August 13 at 12:00 IST via mi.com, Amazon, and Xiaomi Retail.
