Samsung Galaxy Watch9’s codename surfaces, might launch with a Classic model

Samsung launched the first “Classic” smartwatch with the Galaxy Watch4 in 2021, but it wasn’t a part of all the Galaxy Watch lineups that arrived later, as Samsung launched the Classic model with alternate generations, meaning the Watch5 and Watch7 didn’t have a Classic version, but the Watch6 and Watch8 series did. Considering that pattern, we weren’t expecting Samsung to launch a Classic smartwatch this year, but a new development suggests that might not be the case.

While looking at the code of a Wear OS update, the folks at Android Authority spotted what could be the codenames for the next generation of Galaxy Watches. And there are three of them: Fresh 9, Wise 9, and Project V2.

Fresh 9 and Wise 9 are believed to be the codenames of the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch9 Classic, respectively, while Project V2 is believed to be the codename for the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.

Additionally, the publication also spotted the existing “RttSettingsManagerPixelWatch” setting in the Google code along with the new “RttSettingsManager3pWearOs” setting, suggesting the Galaxy Watch9 – and maybe other Wear OS smartwatches – could get support for the Pixel Watch-exclusive Raise-to-talk feature.
