Samsung’s next smartwatch doesn’t run Wear OS, new report claims

Samsung is working on a new smartwatch that will not be running Wear OS, according to a new report. This will allegedly slot in between the Galaxy Fit and the Galaxy Watch FE in price, and it’s codenamed Galaxy Aero.

It runs RTOS and references to it have been found inside the Galaxy Wearable app’s code, which describes it as a watch with a screen. It’s likely that this will have the standard set of sensors you’d expect from a smartwatch, and given the fact that it’s not running Wear OS, it should have week-long (or even weeks-long) battery life.

What isn’t known yet is whether it will have a circular, rectangular, or square display. As for the name, since Galaxy Aero seems to just be a codename, it’s very possible that it will be called something else when it finally launches. Speaking of which, we don’t yet know when it will be made official, but Samsung is gearing up to launch a bunch of new devices in September, so maybe that’s when we’ll see this one too.
