Spotify gets a Running Mode

Spotify has now added a new Running Mode to its iOS app for Premium subscribers in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden. If you are in one of the supported countries and have an iPhone, you should be able to find the Running Mode in the Fitness Hub already.

Inside the Running Mode you will find 25 curated running playlists, which you can customize by workout type, duration, beats per minute, and what type of music you’re in the mood for. Once you press play, Spotify will guide your run with music tailored to your workout. The playlist “seamlessly moves through tracks” for “a more fluid, motivating soundtrack”, the company says.

Running Mode also includes optional audio cues in English to guide you through your workout. This is apparently “like a supportive friend running alongside you, offering timely cues and motivation without getting in the way of your music”.

Spotify says fitness-based prompts have been some of the most popular with users of Prompted Playlists, and so it figured that there’s growing demand for a more personalized workout experience. And that’s how Running Mode came to be.
