Taiwan issues arrest warrant for OnePlus CEO

Liu Zuohu, also known as Pete Lau, is the co-founder and CEO of OnePlus, and he has led the brand since its inception in 2013. While we haven’t heard much from the exec in the last few months, he is now facing arrest charges by Taiwanese prosecutors. The reason? Illegal hiring practices in Taiwan.

Taiwan issues arrest warrant for OnePlus CEO

Taiwan’s Shilin District Prosecutors’ Office issued an official document on Tuesday indicting two Taiwanese citizens for aiding in the recruiting practices of the OnePlus CEO. According to prosecutors, OnePlus, with Lau at the helm, hired over 70 engineers based in Taiwan to work on software development and testing for OnePlus.

The problem is that the hiring process happened without government approval, making it in breach of the “Cross-Strait Act” between China and Taiwan. Neither Lau nor OnePlus has issued an official statement on the matter.
