The next-generation Tata Nexon has entered its initial testing phase ahead of its official launch, which is expected sometime in 2027. Internally codenamed ‘Garud’, the subcompact SUV is expected to receive significant design changes, feature enhancements and new technologies. The engine setup, however, is likely to remain unchanged.

New Platform

The biggest change will be made to its underpinning. The 2027 Tata Nexon will switch to the new ATLAS (adaptive tech-forward lifestyle architecture) platform, which also underpins the Curvv coupe SUV. It’s a scalable platform designed to support different vehicle size, body style and segments along with multiple powertrains. It also supports future technologies through cloud connectivity and an advanced electric architecture.

Improved Styling

Spy images suggest that the new Tata Nexon will retain its original upright stance. However, the front fascia is likely to witness significant design changes including a newly-designed grille, redesigned headlamps and bumper. Other expected changes include newly-designed alloy wheels, slightly sloping roof, new LED taillamp assembly, revised tailgate and rear windshield.

Expected Features

Inside the cabin, the 2027 Tata Nexon is likely to feature a redesigned dashboard, a fully digital driver’s display and a larger touchscreen infotainment system. The feature list is also expected to gain additions such as a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a 360-degree camera and a Level 2 ADAS suite.

Same Engine Options

Mechanically, the new Tata Nexon is expected to remain largely unchanged. The SUV lineup will continue to feature the existing 1.2-itre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre turbo diesel engines. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will also be carried forward. The Nexon eCNG version will feature an underbody CNG tank, and offer an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 24km/kg.

Pricing & Competition

Compared with the current-gen Nexon, which is priced between Rs 7.40 lakh – Rs 14.40 lakh, the 2027 Tata Nexon is likely to command a slight premium. In the subcompact SUV segment, it will continue to take on the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq.
