The new Lava Bold N2 Pro debuts with an old 4G chipset, 6.67″ 120Hz display

A month ago, Lava introduced the Bold N2, a fairly basic 4G phone. Now the company is launching the Lava Bold N2 Pro – confusingly, the Pro phone is smaller and cheaper than its vanilla sibling. Huh?

The N2 Pro is powered by the Unisoc T7250, a staple of cheap 4G phones. This is a 12nm chip with Cortex-A75 and A55 cores, a Mali-G57 and an LTE modem. The Pro seems to only have one configuration with 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage.

The phone features a 6.67” 120Hz LCD with 720p+ resolution. It runs Android 15, which is a generation behind and Android 17 is just around the corner. The Bold N2 Pro won’t see v17, though, since Lava only promises a single OS update and 2 years of security patches.

The phone runs on a 5,000mAh battery with 18W charging support – though the retail package only includes a slow 10W charger.

Okay, let’s stop and compare with the Lava Bold N2. That one has a larger 6.75” LCD, a 90Hz 720p+ panel, and the same 5,000mAh battery. What’s so Pro about this one? Well, the non-Pro N2 runs Android 15 Go Edition on a Unisoc 9863A, an ancient 28nm chipset with eight Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.6GHz.

The Pro also has better cameras – a 50MP rear and an 8MP front camera, compared to 13MP and 5MP on the regular N2.

The N2 Pro has an IP54 rating, which is lower than the IP64 rating of the non-Pro model. The new model is available in Eclipse Grey and Aurora Gold.

If all this wasn’t confusing enough, the Lava Bold N2 Pro is up for pre-order on Flipkart where a 4/128GB model costs ₹8,000 (supposedly discounted from ₹10,500). Meanwhile, the same store has a 4/64GB Bold N2 non-Pro listed (out of stock, but still) for ₹9,000.
