The Redmi Note 17 Pro will come with a 5-year battery replacement guarantee

Xiaomi is eking out details for the Redmi Note 17 Pro – earlier today, it revealed that the phone is going to have a 9,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging and 22.5W fast reverse charging. There’s more to it than that – Xiaomi believes in its battery tech so much that it offers a 5-year protection plan.

If the battery capacity drops below 80% during the first four years of owning your phone, Xiaomi will replace it for free. And if it drops below 80% in the fifth year, Xiaomi will upgrade it for free.

You read that right – it will upgrade the battery with a higher capacity one. At the rate things are going, we can easily believe that in 5 years’ time there will be batteries with more than 9,000mAh capacity that fit inside the same dimensions. Still, offering a free battery upgrade for a phone so old is pretty bold.

The image specifies +1,000mAh, so you could end up with a 10,000mAh phone. Of course, Xiaomi is betting that most if not all Redmi Note 17 Pro batteries stay above 80% health in that period. Also, this deal is called the “First Sale Free Five-Year Battery Upgrade Guarantee”, so it sounds like it will be available only to users who buy the phone during the launch period.

Anyway, Xiaomi also talks of foreground app optimizations, accelerated startup times and other tweaks to HyperOS that will keep the Redmi Note 17 Pro running smoothly over a 5-year period. This includes wear leveling for the storage that will keep read/write speeds high and reduce degradation.

That won’t do much if you drop and break your phone, would it? We already saw a demonstration of how tough the Redmi Note 17 Pro is in a dramatic teaser video. Today’s post comes with less showmanship and more details – the phone has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front and has passed the 3m marble drop test (i.e. dropping a metal marble from 3m onto the screen). The phone is rated IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K for protection against splashes, submersion and water jets.

Finally, the phone has protection for you too – it will flag suspicious calls for potential scams and it will feature detection for AI face swapping (deep fakes).

The Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 Pro will be officially unveiled on July 14.
