The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, an off-road capable from the Japanese automaker, recently made its global debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. According to a fresh media report, this new SUV will make its way to India during 2028 festive season. Its production is likely to start in August 2028 at Toyota’s new Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar facility in Maharashtra.
The FJ Cruiser could be among the first model to be produced at the carmaker’s fourth manufacturing plant in India. This facility will focus on sustainable and green technologies, products and services. Toyota aims to achieve an annual production capacity of 89,000 units, out of which 40,000 units reserved for the export markets. The FJ Cruiser will first go on sale in Japan around mid-2026.

Petrol, Hybrid & Plug-in Hybrid
In India, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ could be offered with multiple powertrain options including a 2.7L petrol, a strong hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. There will be no diesel engine on offer. The model showcased at the Japan Mobility Show was equipped with a 2.7L naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired to a 6-speed ECT (electronically controlled torque convertor) automatic gearbox. This setup, with the 4WD drivetrain system, delivers a peak power of 163PS and 246Nm of torque.
Design & Dimensions
Based on the body-on-frame chassis, the Toyota FJ Cruiser features boxy stance with a bold front grille, a pronounced bumper with skid plate, C-shaped lighting elements, blacked-out B-pillars, conventional door handles, prominent wheel arches, a flat windscreen, C-shaped taillamps and a tailgate mounted spare wheel.
Dimensionally, the FJ Cruiser measures 4,575mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,960mm in height. Its overall length is shorter than the Fortuner and Mahindra Scorpio N. The off-road SUV has 2,580mm of wheelbase and 215mm of ground clearance.
Interior & Key Features
The Land Cruiser FJ concept was showcased with a 5-seats layout, featuring 12.5-inch dual screens, a three-spoke steering wheel, circular AC vents, a sunroof, and Toyota Safety Sense suite. The SUV offers an all-black interior theme with multi-layered dashboard.
