Who is Jason Howe?

Jason D. Howe, a 26-year-old from Runnemede, New Jersey, was a familiar face at Sterling High School in Somerdale. As a chemistry teacher, he spent his days guiding students through labs and lessons. But his role went further, as he also began training as the school’s sports instructor, coaching boys’ and girls’ cross country teams, leading freshman boys’ basketball, and assisting with girls’ spring track, according to CBS Philadelphia. That all changed on April 3, 2026, when local police got a tip from a female student claiming a sexual relationship with Howe. He was arrested that same day and hit with second-degree sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child charges, as detailed by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. School officials suspended him right away, barring him from any property, CBS reported.

What were the allegations made against him?

The trouble started when the student, aged 16 or 17, reported the relationship to the police. Detectives jumped in, and their probe revealed that Howe and the victim had sexual intercourse at his Runnemede apartment in March 2026.During the investigation, detectives determined Howe and the victim had a physical encounter at his apartment,” the prosecutor’s office stated, per WPG Talk Radio report.Howe ended up at Camden County Correctional Facility, held pending a detention hearing the following week. So far, officials say this student is the only known victim, but any new claims will get a full look.“Authorities have stated that the student who came forward is the only victim identified in this matter so far. However, officials made clear that if any additional allegations are reported, they will be fully investigated,” as noted in reports from the prosecutor’s office.

Howe’s Background and school ties

Before this incident happened, Howe seemed like the all-in teacher type. Sterling High School, part of the Sterling Regional School District, relies on staff like him for both academics and athletics. His coaching gigs put him in close contact with teens during practices and events, building the kind of rapport that makes these allegations so jarring.
