The AI race is heating up, and so is the demand for hardware required to support it. That’s why companies that produce HBM memory chips like Samsung have benefited immensely in the last few years. So it’s only logical for Samsung to shift its focus to HBM memory production, as this is the company’s best-performing business lately.
According to inside sources, Samsung is already in talks with its partners, urging them to finish their DDR5 production lines ahead of schedule and is looking to invest in new outsourced production lines as well. This will free up in-house capacity, which can then be used for the higher-value production of HBM chips.
One would wonder, though, whether the transition period would affect the DDR5 memory market even more. It’s already squeezed out, and it’s a nightmare for anyone looking to build a new PC, server or just buy a laptop.
So far, Samsung has been in talks with Dreamtech, situated in India, Hanyang Digitech in Vietnam and SFA Semicon in the Philippines.
