Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan starring Amandeep Sidhu (Sneha) and Sheizaan Khan (Siddhu) is currently focusing on a strong and socially relevant storyline that deals with the unfair and deeply rooted practice of dowry. It shows how in the name of dowry, a bride and her family should never lose their dignity. In the upcoming episode, Ganga Mai (Shubhangi Latkar), finally says no to Sahana’s mother-in-law, Kaushalya, (Gunabi Maan), and her demands for a dowry. The show is all set to send a strong message to all the women and their families about having respect for yourself and taking firm stand against such evil practices. Srishti Jain, who plays Sahana and is getting married soon in real life soon, talks about this social issue.Srishti Jain shares, “I’m glad our show is taking a strong stand against dowry and sending a strong message to the audience. Every parent and bride should be strong and sure of themselves, so they don’t give into such demands. Now that I’m about to marry the love of my life, I can say that our families, close friends, and loved ones don’t believe in dowry. I believe education plays an important role to make you understand how dowry is a wrong and a big social stigma. It makes you aware that this custom is wrong and even a crime in our country.”The actress further adds, “I have always fought for gender equality, especially in religious and cultural settings where women have often been seen as a problem. There is a section of society who even today thinks women not as good as men. Although not in physical strength, but psychologically men and women are the same. In fact, Women are better than men in many areas. I really don’t get the idea of a dowry; it’s a practice that needs to end. In fact I know a lot of men who are more of a liability than most women will ever be.”Now that, Ganga Mai has firmly told Sahana’s mother-in-law that she won’t fulfil her dowry demands, it will be interesting to see how Sahana’s mother-in-law will react to this setback and whether she will make Sahana’s life even harder.
