New Tata 7-Seater EV SUV Coming This Festive Season – XEV 9S Rival

Tata Motors is currently dominating the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market with a 39.2 percent share in FY2026. Models such as the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV and Tata Harrier EV are witnessing strong demand, while the Tiago EV and Tigor EV continue to perform well in terms of sales. However, Mahindra & Mahindra has emerged as a strong challenger, with offerings such as BE6, XEV 9, XEV 9S and XUV 3XO EV. Amid increasing competition, Tata Motors is now planning to expand its EV product lineup with a new 7-seater electric SUV – the Tata Safari EV.

Launch & Production Timeline

Codenamed ‘Tayrona’, the Safari EV will enter production in August, and reach showrooms during 2026 festive season. In terms of pricing and positioning, this 7-seater EV will directly take on the Mahindra XEV 9S, which is currently available within the price range of Rs 19.95 lakh – Rs 29.45 lakh (ex-showroom).

Expected Powertrain Options

While official specifications and details will be revealed closer to its launch, the Tata Safari EV is expected to share powertrain options, components and features with the Harrier EV. The Tata Harrier EV is available with three powertrain options – 65kWh (RWD) single motor, 75kWh (RWD) single motor and 75kWh (AWD) dual motor.

The smaller 65kWh battery version delivers a claimed MIDC range of 538km per charge, producing power worth 238PS and 315Nm of torque. The 75kWh variant with a single motor promises a range of 627km, while its dual motor version offers 622km on a full charge.

Design & Features

Save for the EV-specific changes, the overall design and styling, interior layout and features of the Tata Safari EV will remain largely similar to the ICE version. The SUV might feature a closed-off grille, redesigned front and rear bumpers, aero-optimized alloy wheels, and EV badging.

Similar to the Tata Harrier EV, the Tata 7-seater EV is expected to come with TiDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer), offering features such as updated Level 2 ADAS, a 540 degree surround view camera, OTA (over-the-air) updates, DrivePay, auto park assist and more.
