The Kia Sorento premium three-row SUV is set to launch in India in the coming months, with a possible market debut in late September, 2026. Select Kia dealers have already started accepting bookings for the model at a token sum of Rs 25,000. Ahead of its official debut, the carmaker has released a teaser confirming the name of its upcoming 7-seater hybrid SUV.

Hybrid & Diesel Options

While official powertrain specifications are yet to be revealed, the leaked document suggests that the Sorento will be available with both diesel and strong hybrid powertrain options. In the UK, the SUV is offered with a 1.6L, four-cylinder TGDi petrol engine (180PS/265Nm) paired with a 44.2kW permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, producing 59bhp and 264Nm.

This hybrid setup delivers a combined output of 215PS and 367Nm. It’s also features a 1.49kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV’s diesel version is expected to feature a 2.2L CRDi turbo engine.

The Kia Sorento will be the brand’s flagship offering in India, with prices expected to range between Rs 30 lakh – Rs 35 lakh. At this price point, it directly rivals the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and Jeep Meridian. But should you wait for the Sorento or buy one of its rivals today?

The Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron share Volkswagen Group’s MQB Evo platform and 2.0L TSI turbo petrol engine. The German duo also gets AWD (all-wheel drive) system as standard across the lineup.

If you value European build and driving dynamics, the Kodiaq and Tayron will perfectly fit your requirement. However, if fuel efficiency, lower running costs and premium cabin refinement matter more than performance, the Kia Sorento is worth waiting for.
