Tamil Nadu assembly election 2026: More than 15,000 applications submitted seeking DMK ticket; 1,473 propose Stalin as candidate

CHENNAI: More than 15,000 applications have been submitted for contesting the Tamil Nadu assembly election on DMK ticket.Of these, 1,473 applications were filed by party functionaries proposing the candidature of chief minister and DMK president M K Stalin to contest from their respective constituencies. The party has received about Rs 3.68 crore through applications submitted in Stalin’s name alone.In a statement, the party said it had received a total of 15,372 applications from aspirants in all the 234 constituencies during the exercise that began on Feb 2 and concluded on March 6. The response, the party said, was “unprecedented,” reflecting the confidence of the cadres about the DMK returning to power and forming the Dravidian Model 2.0 govt.The party had fixed the application fee at Rs 25,000 for general constituencies, while women and aspirants from reserved constituencies were required to pay Rs 15,000 per application.
