This Hardcore 4X4 SUV Might Launch In India

The Nissan Patrol is one of the most iconic SUVs globally, having generations of admiration for its extreme durability, serious off-road capabilities and strong road presence. The SUV lineup is currently in its seventh-generation, featuring a twin-turbo V6 engine and high-tech interior.

The Japanese automaker has so far consciously avoiding bringing the Patrol in India due to high taxation, low market demand for full-size off-roaders and its premium positioning.

Patrol India Is Under Consideration

It now appears that Nissan has started evaluating the introduction of the Nissan Patrol in India via the CBU (completely built-up) route. Speaking to Autocar India, Guillaume Cartier, Chief Performance Officer (CPO), revealed that the company is considering launching the Patrol SUV under the homologation-free import route. This scheme allows manufacturers to import up to 2,500 CBU units or SKD kits annually without full homologation.

Expected Launch & Price in India

The Nissan Patrol will serve as a halo product for the brand, and challenge Toyota LC300 and Land Cruiser Prado in India. It’s expected to be priced above Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom).

Engine Options & Specs

Globally, the SUV lineup is currently available with two petrol V6 engine options – a 3.8L, naturally aspirated and a 3.5L twin-turbo. The naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers a maximum power of 316bhp and 386Nm of torque, whereas the twin-turbo unit produces a massive 425bhp and 700Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and come with a full-tine AWD (all-wheel drive) system.
