Two cousins die as bike rams into electric pole
Tragedy struck the community of West Champaran as two young lives were tragically cut short in a motorcycle accident near Mathia Manguraha Chowk. Kundan Kumar, only 26 and just married, and his 13-year-old cousin Prince Kumar, a diligent Class VII student, died at the scene. A third passenger, Vivek Manjhi, aged 16, now battles for his life in critical condition.

Bettiah: Two cousins were killed and a third youth sustained serious injuries after a speeding motorcycle went out of control and rammed into an electric pole in West Champaran district on Thursday night, police said.The accident occurred near Mathia Manguraha Chowk under Lauria block when the three youths were returning from a wedding ceremony. According to police, the bike went out of control due to high speed and collided with a roadside electric pole, leading to a fatal crash.The victims were identified as 26-year-old Kundan Kumar and 13-year-old Prince Kumar, both residents of Chhota Chaumukha village under Yogapatti police station limits. The injured youth, Vivek Manjhi (16), a resident of the same village, is undergoing treatment at GMCH Bettiah.Family members said the trio had gone to attend the wedding of one Ramesh in Sisahi village. While returning late at night, the rider lost balance near Mathia Manguraha Chowk due to excessive speed, resulting in the accident.Relatives said Kundan had been married recently on March 13, 2026, and was the sole breadwinner of his family, working as a daily wage labourer. Prince was a Class VII student and the only child of his parents.Lauria SHO Ramesh Kumar Sharma said, “Upon receiving information, the Dial 112 team rushed to the spot and took all three to Lauria Community Health Centre, where doctors declared Kundan and Prince dead.” The bodies have been sent to GMCH Bettiah for post-mortem examination.
